Exploring Hong Kong

After a fairly tame night, by my standards anyway, I woke up refreshed and ready to have a walk around the city. I had done my research before I flew so had a little list ready to go. One of my favourite things about Hong Kong was the ever present free Wi-Fi. To make things easier for myself, I was using maps on my phone and Wi-Fi to find my way around instead of doing the traditional folded out map pose on the side of the street. I was also trying to 'Geotag' interesting places I went to on the phone map, so I could find my way back at a later date. This may sound a little on the anal retentive side but I've found it really helps. There have been so many times I couldn't find a small bar or restaurant that I really liked so this was an attempt at a fix.

The first thing I did was head over to the Kowloon side of the water to view the Island skyline. I couldn't remember the scene exactly but I knew how impressive it was. I wasn't really expecting something so beautiful though. A lot of people struggle to see the beauty of man made objects, but in my head a cityscape can be just as amazing as the finest vistas mother nature has to offer. I guess the easiest way is for me to let you judge for yourself

To make for an easier comparison, here is the same view at night. I came and took my pictures as everybody does but I found it very hard to leave. It quickly became one of my favourite places in the world and something I will never forget. The most fitting show of appreciation I could think of was to get a cigar, take a seat and watch the world go by while I was presented with this

You may be wondering what else I was doing on this particular day, it wasn't simply a case of staring at the skyline for the whole day. Hong Kong is legendary for it's shopping, and I am a fashion whore. One of my pet hates are snobby sales associates at upmarket stores, I don't think people remind them that they only work there, they are not shopping there, so there is absolutely no need for the poor attitude. As far as I have seen, this does not happen in the Far East and is yet another reason I love the region so much. A lot of people would say once you've seen one shopping mall, nothing will surprise you but I beg to differ. Here is a mall in Central, a very upmarket place which was immaculately clean and had a very impressive store directory

The next day I was off to Singapore, so a trip to Lan Kwai Fong was in order. There are no pictures of this event, all I know is that I was there and I drank. That is all the information I require
